Middle Eye Rock Collapse

Hilbre Island is accompanied by two smaller uninhabited islands namely Little Eye and Middle Eye. Looking from the Wirral coastline Hilbre is the largest island of the three to your right. All three islands are made of sandstone  - as is Red Rocks on the beach at Hoylake.

The Hilbre Bird Observatory blog has captured a great photo showing a large section of Middle Eye rock has completely fell away. I agree that the icy weather that we’ve had on The Wirral this winter has no doubt been a reason why the rock has fallen away.

Kayak Around Hilbre Island

It’s not something I fancy myself but if you’re at all interested in sea kayaking then you might be interested in this page from Chester Sea Kayaks. It provides a fair amount of information about kayaking out to Hilbre Island – though note it is a rather old article by the looks.
